Maliki calls for special attention to be paid to the elections in Kirkuk

Khandan - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, to pay the elections in the province of Kirkuk a special significance.

This came during a meeting on Wednesday 17 \ 10 \ 2012, the President of the United Nations Mission in Iraq Martin Kobler.

The statement said the Iraqi prime minister, "it was during the meeting, they discussed matters relating to the task of the UN Mission in Iraq, and the formation of the Electoral Commission for elections and the ongoing preparations for holding the elections on the date determined by the Commission."

The statement stressed that "Kuebler submitted a report containing his assessment of the situation in Kirkuk."

The statement noted that al-Maliki said, "The government will provide everything you need Commission and will be supported for a fair and safe elections, calling for giving the election in the province of Kirkuk is particularly important."

The statement added that al-Maliki said, "The sensitivity of the situation there (Kirkuk) calls for a focus on providing a secure environment for all voters and special measures contribute to a UN-effective to secure the necessary transparency of the elections."

For his part, the price Kobler "the government's position supporting the UNHCR and its efforts to hold free and fair elections, especially in the province of Kirkuk, said that the UN Mission will cooperate with the government all they can to establish a transparent elections," according to the statement.

The statement noted that al-Maliki "reiterated the need to exit Iraq from Chapter VII and find another mechanism agreed upon Iraq and Kuwait to follow up on bilateral issues."

Maliki also pointed to "receiving a confirmation from the Russian leadership to support Iraqi efforts in this area," according to the statement.
