Baghdad (IBA) ...Japan's Nikkei newspaper said that Japan had offered to lend Iraq some 120 billion yen ($ 1.24 billion) to build a new refinery and port.

The daily said Japan would lend Iraq initially 82.7 billion yen to build a refinery for extraction of natural gas liquids in the Rumaila oil field in the South of the country.

It will be a second loan worth 39.2 billion yen to rebuild port of Khawr al-Zubayr.

The Nikkei said the loans would be 40 years.

The two are expected to compete against j. j. c wecioda on the Rumailah refinery project while Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Toyota will compete for Tau draft rebuilding Khor Al-Zubair.

The Nikkei reported that Japan submitted in 2008 a loan of 50.5 billion yen for Iraq to build a pipeline for crude oil. (End)
