$50m housing project underway in Mosul
28/07/2011 15:23
Nineveh, July 28 (AKnews) – Iraqi firm al-Faw has begun the construction of a 100,000-unit housing project in central Mosul, 365 km north of Baghdad.

Nineveh housing director Mazen Mohammed Rajab told AKnews that the scheme in Mosul’s al-Nour district includes three schools, a shopping complex and four health centers.

The $50 million project - scheduled for completion in mid-2012 – is part of a government drive to ease a housing shortage in Iraq’s third largest city, home to around 1.7 million people.

Iraq’s rapidly growing population faces an acute shortage of housing. According to the Iraqi housing and reconstruction minister, Mohammed al-Darraji, the country is in need of around two million homes to close the gap between demand and supply.

Darraji headed yesterday’s launch ceremony and laid the cornerstone of the Mosul complex.
