Talabani discusses with Iraq’s Kurdish Ambassadors importance of activity with Iraqi spirit
7/20/2011 10:10 AM

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani has discussed in Baghdad on Tuesday with Iraq’s Ambassadors, belonging to the Kurdish Nationality, the importance to continue their activity with an Iraqi spirit, highly assessing their role to represent the new Iraq, according to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency.

“The thing that creates pride and rejoice is to see a group of Kurdish diplomats representing the independent multinational democratic federal Iraq, considering themselves as its ambassadors, representing all Iraqi components and parties, without any discrimination,” President Talabani said.

He pointed out that “Iraq is facing intentional and cruel media campaigns, launched by certain parties and bodies, enemy to democracy, who don’t want to see a prosperous Iraq.”

Talabani called on the Kurdish Ambassadors to “confront such trends against Iraq, in order to express facts and highlight achievements that have been made on all levels,” reiterating that “Iraq is a democratic country in the Region, enjoying freedoms, in which all Iraqi political parties have become keen to settle the suspended problems, away from terrorism, whose activity had been curtailed thanks to the vigilance of the masses.”

On the other hand, President Talabani had discussed the situation of the Christians, reiterating that “Christians are original people of their Homeland, Iraq, who have contributed in its civilization and prosperity, during the country’s history, despite what terrorists have done to deprive Iraq’s social, nationalist and religious network from the Christian Community.”

“Kurdistan Region had opened sources for decent living for the Christians, who were forced to escape their home areas,” Talabani said, expressing gratitude to the “position of the Pope in this respect, during his recent reception of Kurdistan President, Massoud Barzani.”
