President Barzani launches US-Kurdistan trade association

ERBIL, April 4 (AKnews) - A trade association made up of of U.S. companies investing in Kurdistan Region will be launched by Kurdistan Region President Massoud al-Barzani during his visit in Washington, DC.

Barzani will meet with the founding members of United States-Kurdistan Business Council (USKBC) and give a keynote speech for the event.

"We are delighted that there is now an official trade association in Washington that will help facilitate investment that benefits U.S. business as well as this thriving region in Iraq," said David Tafuri, a U.S. lawyer and advisor to the USKBC.

"The USKBC will provide advocacy and support to U.S. companies committed to investing in one of the region's most promising emerging markets."

USKBC is dedicated to facilitating trade for, and strengthening ties between US companies in Kurdistan Region, and aims to be at the forefront of events, discussions and networking opportunities .

The group - whose founding members include Marathon Oil Corporation, infrastructure company Louis Berger Group and risk consultancy and security firm Garda World - will represent companies in diverse fields from energy, to manufacturing, finance and transportation.

"The Kurdistan Region presents many business opportunities," said Paula Freer, a director in Marathon Oil Corporation and founding member of the USKBC.

"President Barzani's support of the USKBC's mission will only enhance the council's success and the growth of U.S. investment in the Kurdistan Region."
