Baghdad / National News Center

Today, Saturday, the Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Al-Khafaji, stressed the importance of the agricultural sector in supporting the economy and managing the water file, explaining that the Corona crisis imposed a new reality related to achieving food security.

The ministry stated in a statement received by the "National News Center", that "the minister participated today in the Water Security Conference, which was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources under the slogan (Water security is one of the most important pillars of national security)."

Al-Khafaji said, according to the statement, that “food security is closely related to water security,” noting that

“Iraq can invest the agricultural sector and the economic aspect as a pressure card in the water file by including the issue of trade exchange as one of the approved bases in managing the water file.”

He added, "The Corona crisis imposed a new reality related to achieving food security, and that there is a great development that has been achieved in food security, whether in poultry or the food basket."

Al-Khafaji explained, "The allocations of the ministries of agriculture and resources in the public budgets were limited until 2010, when the agricultural initiative was launched, as well as attention to food security."
