Iran has agreed to add 150 megawatts to the volume of its electricity exports to Iraq, said Electricity Ministry spokesman.

The spokesman Musaid al-Mudaris said the volume of electricity Iraq imports from Iran now amounts to 1150 megawatts.

A delegation from Iran’s Ministry of Energy is in Baghdad for talks on how to boost cooperation in the energy sector and link the countries’ national grids.

Power outages are still common in Iraq despite billions of dollars of investments in the energy sector.

Iraq also imports electricity from Turkey and recently from Egypt via Syria through the a power sharing project that links the region’s countries.

The Electricity Ministry has promised to put an end to power cuts in Iraq by the end of 2012.
