He added, "The ministry has made great strides in negotiating with the French company (Total) to establish a project to add 1,000 megawatts of solar energy in the Artawi area in Basra Governorate, in addition to holding talks with an Emirati company, which has reached advanced stages to establish solar energy projects in the governorates of Samawah and Anbar. In addition, the first licensing round was referred to 755 megawatts after studying it technically and economically.

And he indicated that "these projects are currently in the Investment Authority and include five governorates, namely (Babylon, Najaf, Karbala, Samawah and Diwaniyah)."

He stressed that "the ministry is serious about implementing these projects and referring them for implementation to produce 7,500 megawatts of solar energy as quickly as possible, especially since the government's direction is to activate solar and clean energy projects to produce electricity in Iraq."

Yesterday, Wednesday, under the patronage of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, an agreement of principles was signed between the Ministry of Electricity and the Chinese Power China Company, regarding the establishment of solar power plants with a capacity of 2000 megawatts, to be implemented with a capacity of 750 megawatts as a first stage, up to a capacity of 2000 megawatts.
