Shafaq News/ Statistics from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reported that Iraq ranked fourth in the world in producing dates for the past year 2023.
 
FAO said that date production takes place in an area of ​​​​more than 1.09 million cubic meters in the world, and
 
more than 8.5 million tons of this agricultural product are produced annually, explaining that the
 
most consumption of this product is in Ramadan, as it is considered an essential part of Islamic traditions, as
 
it is considered a It is beneficial for the body’s health to compensate for nutritional losses during the fasting period.
 
The organization indicated that date cultivation rates were distributed at about 58.8% in the continent of Asia and 43.4% in Africa.
 
Meanwhile, the Arab countries account for 77% of the global production of dates, meaning 6.6 million tons of this product annually. According to statistics,
 
last year, Iraq produced 735 thousand tons of dates from 17 million palm trees, ranking fourth in date production in the world. She explained that
 
Iraq also ranked fourth in 2022 with 715.2 thousand tons, while palm trees in Iraq ranked first in the world with 22 million palm trees. She added that the
 
average Iraqi date exports last year amounted to 600,000 tons, most of which were exported to Turkey, India, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, the UAE, China, Bangladesh, and some European and American markets.
 
Among the best types of dates produced in Iraq are “Al-Khastawi, Al-Khadrawi, Al-Ashrasi, Al-Jamali, Al-Halawi, Al-Sayer and Al-Maktoum.”
