Maliki chairs meeting of Foreign Policies Committee

Baghdad (NINA) – Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki chaired on Wednesday, Aug. 8, a meeting of the Foreign Policies Committee, consisting of representatives for the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Defence, Oil and Planning, in addition to National Security Advisor, Director of Intelligence and Cabinet's Legal Advisor, as well as Chairman of Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office quoted Maliki calling for the Committee to assume its role, like other committees in drawing the state's foreign policies and oversees their execution.

Maliki stressed the necessity to coordinate between ministries with regard to the foreign the policy and not to allow for any shortcoming in this field that would negatively reflect on the state's prestige and its performance.

He added the executing foreign policy, which has been drawn, will be the Foreign Ministry's responsibility, according to the Constitution and related laws.

For his part, Chairman of Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee, Homam Hamoudi, stressed the necessity for such a Committee, pointing out that Parliament supports the Committee's resolutions to draw the state's general policies all are committed to. / End.
