POLITICS: North Iraq's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan nominates Region's Deputy PM

SULAIMANIYA / Aswat al-Iraq: The Official Spokesman for north Iraq's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Azad Jindiany, has announced on Thursday that PUK's Leadership had convened today to nominate one of its personalities for the post of Deputy Premier for Kurdistan Region, after the decision of the Region's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) that nominated Nichervan Barzani for the Premier's post.

"PUK's Leadership is convening today to chose its official nominee for the post of Kurdistan Government's Deputy Premier's post," Jindiany told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, adding that
PUK's Political Bureau Member, Imad Ahmed, was the most outstanding nominee for the post."
He said that "the final and official decision for PUK's nominee for the post of the Region's Deputy Premier would be announced in today's meeting, according to the decision to exchange leading posts in Kurdistan Region's government and Parliament between the 2 Parties that won
the 2009 Parliamentary Elections, the DPK, led by Massoud Barzani and PUK, led by Jalal Talabani.

DPK's nominee, Nichervan Barzani, was nominated for the post of Premier, to succeed PUK's Secretary-General, Barham Saleh, who occupied the post for the past 2 years, whilst the post of the Kurdistan Parliament's Speaker would be nominated by PUK, to succeed the current Speaker, Kamal Kirkuki.
