Kurdistan confirms agreement with Baghdad on the continuation of the signing of oil contracts with international companies

5.1.2012 | (Voice of Iraq) - Sumerian News / Baghdad said Iraq's Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani, said Thursday that there was an agreement with Baghdad that continues each side signing oil contracts with international companies until the enactment of the oil and gas, with I consider that the areas withheld is part of the territory, called the federal government to the application of Article 140 of the Iraqi constitution.

Barzani said in a press statement that "there is an agreement with Baghdad that continues each side to sign contracts with international companies oil to issue oil and gas law," noting that "Kurds are considered to areas withheld part of the Kurdistan region and are therefore covered by the contracts of oil." He called Barzani, "the federal government to the application of Article 140 as stipulated in the Constitution of Iraq, if it was still fought in it."

The head of the Kurdistan region Masoud Barzani said, on 23 December 2011, he briefed Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki for talks the region, with Exxon Mobil and that the latter did not object, while noting that the agreement with them does not violate the Constitution, considered that the attraction of foreign investments is the promotion for the region internationally.

It is noteworthy that the President Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq Barham Salih said in (November 24, 2011), to retain the contract, which the Government signed with Exxon Mobil, stressing that the province would not give up their constitutional right to manage its resources of oil and investment projects, calling on the federal government in Baghdad to Review the Iraqi Constitution, which guarantees the rights of Kurdistan in this area.
