Oil Ministry Needs to Be More Transparent: Committee
BAGHDAD, (AKnews) –The Oil Ministry should be more transparent regarding info released to the media by setting up an media center, Iraqi Parliament’s Oil and Gas Committee said Monday
The committee has criticized the oil ministry for a “weak media role” that could be an obstacle before transparency related to the oil sector.
Furat al-Shara, a member of the committee, told AKnews that “Today, the Oil and Gas committee has called on the Iraqi Oil Ministry officially to establish a media center specialized in oil affairs to prevent blockage of data that should be released to the media”
From 2006-2010, German’s Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index ranked Iraq the 2nd, 3rd or 4th most corrupt country in the world. In 2011, however, Iraq moved up the list for the first time to the 8th spot.
