Government advisor: The use of renewable energy has become one of the state’s work principles and strategies

energy
Economy News - Baghdad

On Friday, the financial advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, identified two paths for programs to develop the energy sector in Iraq, while

stressing that the use of renewable energy has become one of the principles of the state’s work and its short, medium and long-term strategies.

Saleh said, in a statement reported by the official news agency and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that

“programs to develop the energy sector in general and renewable energy in particular take two different paths in our country.

The first is the optimal exploitation of natural gas and associated gas to meet the country’s needs for energy provision.” Electricity for the purposes of development and prosperity by replacing clean fuels with less emission of waste that pollutes the environment, and

the beginning is today with one of the largest French companies that is currently working in the fields of the south and center, and is taking it upon itself to stop the waste in gas production that accompanies the production of crude oil, in addition to operating a project.

The production of electricity is linked to the use of renewable and clean energy, specifically by using solar energy and connecting it to the national grid for the first time in our country, with a production of one thousand megawatts.

There are similar investment projects related to generating electricity from solar energy and connecting it to the national grid.” He added:

“Because Iraq is one of the rare, wealthy countries that enjoys long average annual sunrise hours, which is the best in the world, the trend towards using solar energy as renewable energy has become one of the principles of the state’s work and its short, medium and long-term strategies in using clean energy sources, as the state will begin by itself.”

By gradually making its institutions dependent on solar energy to meet their operational needs, separately from encouraging the private sector to use renewable (solar) energy.” He explained,

“The importance of this is to reduce the pressure on electricity generation that comes from the use of traditional fuel,

in addition to facing invisible problems represented by providing fresh water to feed electric power generation stations with traditional fuel with the necessary fresh water, especially from rivers,

but in light of the decrease in river water, it is clearer.” Which is caused by the forced desertification to which our country is exposed from the upstream countries, resorting to renewable energy is an important aspect of the strategy for water management and optimal use of it as an important vital and life resource.” He continued:

“The import policy also allowed at the same time to encourage the provision of electrical appliances that feed on solar energy, as the public began circulating them on a tangible scale, as an alternative culture that uses clean energy independently to meet electricity needs, whether for lighting, air conditioning, etc., and even in generating electricity.”

Renewable electrical energy from the sun to meet the needs of agricultural work, such as irrigation in the agricultural field, is considered an alternative to the use of traditional fuel. He pointed out that

“there is an incentive program previously launched by the Central Bank of Iraq to support the manufacturing of devices that help generate renewable energy, especially solar energy,” noting that

“the rapid technological developments globally in the field of reducing the costs of producing clean and renewable energy will allow our country to enter into using it easily.” “Especially by the public in domestic use,

the promise of solar energy as an additional source reduces dependence on electricity generated with traditional fuels.”
