A revolution against corruption.. Will the Sudanese compass turn towards community banks? -

Today 18:14
Information / Baghdad..

Since its beginnings, the government of Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani has embarked strongly on fighting corruption, since it assigned this file great importance,

and proceeded at an accelerated pace to work on its aspects,

but there are questions being raised about the possibility of its orientation towards private banks,

especially since many of them were involved in the file of money smuggling and money laundering during the period of the previous caretaker government headed by Mustafa al-Kazemi.

Not only that, but private banks have deliberately seized the initiatives of the central bank, according to deputies, in order to work on developing their investments and opening other branches of their banks,

this comes after following a policy that distances citizens from initiatives and loans offered by the central bank.

* Currency depletion

Speaking of the violations of private banks inside Iraq, the MP from the state of Law Coalition, Jassim Atwan,

accuses private banks of currency smuggling and money laundering in the previous period,

demanding the new government to control the doors of currency smuggling outside Iraq.

"The currency smuggling file is controlled by the 75 private banks," he said in an interview with Al-Malouma, stressing that

"the improvement in the economic file starts from controlling the currency smuggling file in order to ensure an increase in the state's foreign reserves.

"There have been illegal practices that have occurred recently from private banks through which currency smuggling and money laundering have taken place," Atwan continued.

* Clear and blatant takeover

The Economist Abdul Rahman al-Mashhadani, in an interview with /information/, that

"private banks have seized all the initiatives of the central bank in order to finance themselves and open other branches for them," pointing out that

"we have not seen those huge initiatives to support investors and emerging entrepreneurs from citizens".  He points out that,

"most of the private banks inside Iraq put the name of investment and development next to their name only without any significant benefit to citizens".  He adds that

"the establishment of private banks in Iraq has become mainly for the purpose of financing its affiliated projects," pointing out that

"there are many private banks working to alienate citizens and uniqueness in financing their own projects.

* Beginning of control

For his part, the MP from the state of Law coalition, Mohammed Al-Shammari, in an interview to/ information/, that

"the decrease in the sales of the Central Bank of the dollar at the currency auction occurred after the control of all the money that was entering the smuggling and laundering box," stressing that

"the Sudanese made the right start by standing up to all those who were making profits from the sale of hard currency in very high amounts, especially in the recent period.

"The features of the product of the work of the new government began to appear through a number of files that were processed in the period following the previous caretaker government," Al-Shammari said.

After all that has been put forward and the hidden violations of private banks inside Iraq and the deprivation of citizens of many initiatives and loans that have been seized,

will the new government work to open the file of private banks in order to reduce the illegal practices they are operating now.
