Bremer: Al-Qaeda and Al-Zarqawi's goal was mainly to kill the Shiites, not the Americans!

The former American civil ruler, Paul Bremer, confirmed that the goal of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda was mainly targeting Shiites, not the occupying American forces.
In a televised interview, Bremer said, "The goal of al-Qaeda and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was to primarily target Shiites, not the occupation forces."
He added, "Al-Zarqawi aimed to ignite strife between Shiites and Sunnis through mutual killings," noting that "Al-Qaeda was present in the beginning under the name (Ansar al-Islam) and was stationed in the north."
Regarding the situation in Afghanistan and its relationship with Iraq, Bremer stressed that "our experience in Afghanistan was unsuccessful," noting that
he was "optimistic about the future of Iraq." finished/25
