Kurdish lawmaker: will increase the proportion of Kurds in the Iraqi defense

Erbil, 17 May (Rn) - A member of the Commission on Security and Defense Council of Representatives, on Tuesday, said that under the bill and the new Iraqi Ministry of Defense, currently directed to the House of Representatives, will increase the proportion of Kurds in the ministry.

"Said Shawan Mohammed Taha told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) that" the bill and the Iraqi Ministry of Defense which was raised by the Legal Committee representative to the Presidency of the Council of Representatives, will re-organization of the Iraqi defense ministry again, and will allow the Kurds to assume senior positions in the ministry. "

He said Taha, MP for the Kurdistan Alliance List, "After the end of the recess of the House of Representatives, the Council will hold the first reading of the draft Law on the Ministry of Defense," noting that "the draft law will restore the structural organization of the ministry again."

He noted that "after that it will pass the bill, some positions will be allocated to the Kurds, as new teams that will shape the future, will be organized in accordance with the new law will have a response rate of those high-level positions such a difference."

He explained that "a bill aimed at re-distribution of powers in the Ministry of Defence in a fair and balanced between the components of the Iraqi people."

It is said that Article IX of the permanent Iraqi constitution confirms that the Iraqi army consists of all components of the people in a balanced manner.

According to the latest data from the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, the Kurds, which accounts for 7 to 8% of the Iraqi army.

The largest military positions assumed by the Kurds in the new Iraqi army, is the position of Chief of Staff of the Iraqi army, which is being handled by Maj. Gen. Babacar Zebari.
