United Nations: aggravated the situation in Iraq because of unresolved constitutional issues
28 / 03/2014 Khandan - United Nations has urged Iraqi leaders to promote national unity, pointing to the continuing political divisions and the Syrian conflict and regional dimensions of the sectarian tensions resulting from it.
He said the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Iraq, Nikolay Mladenov, during the meeting held by the UN Security Council on the latest developments related to Iraq, the country's future is linked to the broad challenges facing the region as a whole.
Mladenov spoke, for the continuation of the political divisions and the Syrian conflict and regional dimensions of the sectarian tensions resulting from it. He explained that the situation was "aggravated by the unresolved constitutional issues which bring continuous tensions between the communities of Iraq, all of this creates a mixture fragile and explosive."
He stressed that "today more than ever, the Iraqi leaders, politicians and civic and religious responsibility and duty to promote national unity to engage all Iraqi parties involved in building a democratic future for their country."
He stressed the need for unity, especially in Anbar province, which stems are now the biggest security threats began to affect other parts of Iraq.
