Hungary to Establish Diplomatic Presence in Erbil

The new Hungarian Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Tibor Tamari, visited the Kurdistan Region this week to meet with senior officials as following his appointment.
Minister Falah Mustafa, Head of KRG Department of Foreign Relations, received the new ambassador, who has already presented his credentials to Baghdad, to discuss Hungarian engagement in Kurdistan on. Minister Mustafa congratulated Ambassador Tamari on his appointment and assured him of his support during his tenure.
During their meeting, the two sides spoke in detail about specific areas, including agriculture, health, education and tourism.
Speaking about the areas of potential cooperation, Minister Mustafa said: “It is time to build upon the visit of the President to Hungary last year – we see Hungary as a friend and partner of the Kurdistan Region.”
He also touched upon the need to establish diplomatic presence in Erbil to join the other 27 countries that currently have representation. Minister Mustafa said that this would help encourage businesses and visitors understand the rich opportunities the region has to offer to the international community.
Ambassador Tamari expressed his country’s willingness to strengthen bilateral relations. He also spoke about the personal commitment from his Prime Minister to ensure the Hungarian engagement in Iraq covers Kurdistan.
He said, “You have achieved something in a short period of time that is incomparable in the rest of the world. This is something that has not gone unnoticed.” He added that his country recognised the success in Kurdistan despite the challenges.
The visiting ambassador also explained his continued efforts to join the diplomatic community Erbil. He underlined his government’s interest in establishing a Consulate.
Minister Mustafa expressed readiness to help and assist this endeavour in any way possible, saying that it is part of the KRG policy to reach out to the international community.
During the meeting, the two officials also touched on the political process in Iraq and the developments in the greater region
