BAGHDAD / Center Brief for the Iraqi Media Network ( IMN) - The Committee on Agriculture and Water parliamentary, Tuesday, that the agricultural initiative, has achieved the desired objectives and contributed to the development of the agricultural situation in the country, and called on the Ministry of Agriculture to continue to grant loans to farmers.

A member of the Committee Fouad Alldorki,'s ( IMN) That "the agricultural situation was at the time of former regime مترديا the very large, unchanged if other sectors," noting that "Iraq was a net importer of all agricultural crops and animal products, due to leave their land for the peasants not to provide support."

He emphasized that "the agricultural initiative launched by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, was Krh for the development of the agricultural sector," explaining that "This game provided the required support for farmers, and during the period of record established wells were used modern irrigation techniques, and built fields and the government provided all the facilities and loans in amounts too large . "

He Alldorki that "Iraq reap the fruits of this initiative, and we now produce vegetables throughout the year due to the provision of support to the homes of plastic, and other projects that have proved successful," adding that "the initiative has developed from the economic level of the country and for the families that depend on agriculture for their livelihood, as that more than 40 percent of Iraqi families depend on agriculture as a source of livelihood to them. "

And called on the Ministry of Agriculture to "continue to grant loans to farmers for the development of this vital sector."

The government has launched, in August of 2008, a comprehensive initiative to promote the agricultural reality in the country, and set a time limit duration of ten years to reach Iraq stage of self-sufficiency in strategic crops.

The initiative includes support farmers with seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, land reclamation and ensure the purchase of production of strategic crops at market prices, in addition to the allocation of loan funds a variety of Development Fund palm of existing ones and the new Fund, modern irrigation techniques, the Fund for livestock, and a fund to support strategic projects, as well as Fund lending to small farmers.
