16-17 November 2012 Beirut- Lebanon Phoenicia Hotel
November 16, 2012 - November 17, 2012

Under the Auspices and presence of the president of the council of ministers
H.E. Mr. Najib Mikati.
Union of Arab Banks present The Annual Arab Banking Conference in Beirut Lebanon 16-17 November 2012 Phoenicia Hotel
Under the Name: Economic Stability AT A Time of Uncertainty.

BACKGROUND The developments and events that have been taking place in the Arab region for the past two years had a significant impact on our choice of the theme for the Annual Arab Banking Conference for 2012 in Beirut "Economic Stability at a Time of Uncertainty". This conference comes in difficult Arab and international conditions characterized by turbulences and uncertainty.

It is clear now that achieving political, social and economic stability is crucial for the sustainability of socio-economic development, considering that the success of macroeconomic policies in general, and fiscal, monetary and investment policies in particular, requires a favorable environment characterized by political stability, security and social welfare. Achieving this stability represents a self-support for these policies so as to succeed and, thus, achieve the goals of development, upgrade the standard of living in all areas, and promote the strengths of the national economy in face of both internal and external challenges.

The Union of Arab Banks, chose to raise this issue in its annual conference this year, in the presence of a large number of Ministers of Finance and Economy, Central Bank Governors and decision-makers in Arab and international banking and financial institutions to explore post-uncertainty period, and to develop plans for growth, stability and progress, based on the fact that progress does not occur in communities characterized by unrest and instability, but takes place in stable societies that do not suffer from structural problems in the relationship between state and society and vice versa.

In this context, the Union of Arab Banks focuses on the crucial role of the Arab banking sectors in implementing the monetary and credit policies necessary for development, supporting the privatization programs, stimulating the capital market, supporting the productive sectors, contributing in setting a favorable investment climate and creating a competitive environment, helping the business sector, expanding the services to customers, providing investment financing for productive purposes, and attracting savings of expatriates

Our conference this year will present an important platform that will contribute in developing appropriate and realistic recommendations and measures for achieving the desired stability, because when political, social and economic stability are achieved on true and deep bases, a sound framework is then available for sustainable development and cooperation with others.
