{Basra: Euphrates News} Basra Governorate Council allocated 30 billion dinars within the regional development budget for 2012 in order to support farmers and the agricultural sector in the province.

The President of the Agricultural Committee in the Basra Governorate Council on Sawadi told {Euphrates News} said Friday that "the local government in Basra seeks to lend a helping hand to farmers through the provision of all the needs and requirements for agriculture and therefore it is no excuse for neglecting the farm land and left without cultivation ".

Sawadi revealed "allocation of funds within the regional development budget for the year 2012 up to 30 billion dinars and this will contribute to the support of farmers and help them turn desert areas into green benefit to the public interest."

He pointed to "the existence of many efforts over the next year to increase allocations to 50 billion dinars, and thus be able to fill all the requirements needed by the farmer and the farm in the province of Basra."

He added that "the amounts allocated to support the agricultural sector will contribute to the provision of agricultural combines and tractors, pumps and agricultural inputs such as pesticides, fertilizers and other of what the farmer needs during the agricultural process and free of charge."
