Talabani, Allawi agree on means to settle political crisis

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq's President Jalal Talabani has reached an agreement with a delegation, representing al-Iraqiya Bloc, led by its Chairman Iyad Allawi, in a meeting they held in Sulaimaniya city on Friday, a Presidential statement announced on Saturday.

The meeting tackled the need to prepare the political atmosphere and to stop using the mass media as means for publicizing problems and increasing differences in order to settle the current political crisis in Iraq, the statement, as was received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency, noted.

President Talabani had received in Sulaimaniya on Friday, a large delegation, representing al-Iraqiya Bloc, led by its Chairman, Iyad Allawi and membership of the Parliament's Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, Deputy Prime Minister, Saleh al-Mutlaq, Finance Minister, Rafi'a al-Issawi and a number of other leaders of al-Iraqiya Bloc, the statement clarified.

"The meeting discussed means of and the necessity to boost efforts to resolve the current political crisis and create a suitable ground of dialogue and joint action, that would share in achieving political solutions and lead towards joint action to concentrate on the leading issues among the political forces," the statement stressed.

The delegation "concentrated on the necessity of continuing the decisive and active role by President Talabani to gather all political leaders on the open dialogue and constructive table to settle all the complicated problems and issues that hamper the the political process," the statement pointed out.

"A collective agreement has been reached to act towards the pacification of the political atmosphere and to stop the use of the mass media, as a tool to reflect the current political problems and to increase the division, as well as a means to reflect viewpoints that would boost the problems," the statement highlighted.

"In light of the results of the said meeting and other meetings and condensed contacts, carried out by the President over the past few days, there is hope that such efforts will continue in Baghdad, in order to hold a summit meeting, to lay the final touches for the expected meeting that would gather the Iraqi leaders, to come up with a decisive settlement for all issues, through a General National Conference," the statement concluded.
