Iraq VP bodyguards arrested for terrorist activity
Iraqi Vice-President Tarek Al Hashimi announced, on Monday, that he is showing extreme patience and looking to a rational behavior from Iraqi government on account of Baghdad International Airport’s incident on Sunday night. Hashimi’s delegation was blocked at the airport and 7 of his bodyguards, including his brother-in-law, were arrested for terrorist activity. Some parties seeking escalation are behind this incident, Hashimi accused demanding the release of his 3 bodyguards.

“We are being extremely patient and we expect a rational behavior from concerned governmental parties,” reported a statement issued by Hashimi’s media office, which Alsumarianews received a copy of. “Iraqis should be informed about these facts,” the statement stressed blaming responsibility on parties seeking escalation.

“Iraqi Vice-President Tarek Al Hashimi was subject, last night, to ‘intentional harassment’ at Baghdad International Airport delaying his flight to Sulaimaniyah for 3 hours,” the statement revealed adding that Hashimi was travelling to Sulaimaniyah upon Iraqi President’s invitation to meet with him and his first Deputy Minister Khudayr Al Khuzai. “A military force stationed at the airport blocked Hashimi’s convoy on the way back and arrested two of his personal protection officers,” The statement described revealing that Hashimi’s personal car was seized and driven with the escorting officer and the driver to Iraqi Defense Intelligence Agency”.

“The car was released along with the driver after 3 hours of detention while the three officers remain arrested,” the statement said denying the declaration of Baghdad Operations Command official spokesman Brigadier General Qassim Atta saying that the officers were released, a source told Alsumaria.

“A military force is massed up around Hashimi’s residence since weeks while a new force besieged the headquarters of Al Tajdeed Movement in Yarmouk as well as Citizens Affairs Office in Qadisiyah but withdrew after hours,” the statement advanced.

The statement called for the immediate release of the 3 officers pointing up that the arrest wasn’t based on any judicial or official orders.

Hashimi’s statement is the first reaction following his delegation’s arrest at Baghdad International Airport in addition to the arrest of 7 of his escorts including his brother-in-law.
A source from Baghdad Airport revealed that Security Forces prevented Hashimi’s plane from taking off while a police source affirmed that Hashimi was asked to hand over the wanted whose names were mentioned in investigations or else legal procedures would be taken.
