Economist: Gas investment contributes to increasing job opportunities in the agricultural sector

The economist, Dr. Safwan Qusai, explained that the associated gas investment will

reduce the rate of desertification and

increase job opportunities in the agricultural sector, pointing out that

Iraq will achieve revenues of not less than $6 billion annually by investing this gas.  Qusai told Al-Maalouma,

"Gas represents the most important resource that Iraq can rely on in the next century, given that

there is a tendency to preserve the environment, especially since

continuing to burn gas contributes to the high level of desertification and the

loss of job opportunities at the agricultural level."  He added,

"Investing associated gas and

stopping its burning process does not [only] give a return to gas consumption locally by generating electricity, but

also contributes to stopping desertification, and thus

increasing job opportunities in the agricultural sector."  And he indicated that

"the government is moving towards new licensing rounds to move towards investing this energy and ensuring that gas is not burned,

especially since an increase in oil exports will be accompanied by an increase in the amount of burned gas, while

its investment will save no less than $6 billion annually."
