Baghdad - Mawazine News

The Minister of Transport, Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli, confirmed, on Saturday, that Iraq will be the main station in the international road project, the land and sea, the Silk Road linking the continents of Asia and Europe,

adding that this is linked to the completion of the construction of the large port of Faw and the signing of the contract during the coming days, following the agreement with the implementing company.

Al-Shibli said, according to the official agency, that "in the event that the Faw port is completed, Iraq will be the center (Silk Road) on which China is working to link Europe with Asia."

He pointed out that "the completion of the project will be followed by the implementation of the dry canal to connect the port of Al-Faw to Turkey,

thus completing a link line from China to Pakistan and the port of Fao by sea, and to Europe by rail," indicating that

"the implementation of the (Silk Road) through Iraq will provide thousands of jobs and a great economic return for the country.,

Is equal to the oil financial revenues, and is linked to the achievement of the great port of Faw.

The Minister of Transport confirmed that his ministry "will complete the first phase of the Al-Faw port at the beginning of next year, explaining that"

the sum of the contract allocated is two billion and 650 thousand dollars,

and the ministry continues to negotiate with the Korean company to agree on this price and reduce the value of the contract.

He pointed out that "the Faw port includes five large projects, with a completion period of three and a half years."

It is noteworthy that, in 2013, China announced its initiative to establish the (New Silk Road), which is a network of ports and railways that will connect nearly 65 countries around the world.
