Austrian Airlines has resumed flights to Baghdad after 21 years, becoming the first major Western carrier offering a regular service to the Iraqi capital. The Austrian Airlines plane touched down yesterday afternoon at Baghdad International Airport.

The decision by the airline to resume Baghdad flights is expected to help Iraq attract international investors.

The airline intends to fly the route three times a week. It began flying to Baghdad in 1982, but stopped in 1990 because of the first Gulf War.
