First deputy chairman of Parliament meets new UN representative in Iraq

BAGHDAD / NINA / First Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives, Qusay al-Suhail received the new Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Baghdad, Nicolay Meladenov.

A statement by the Information Office of the first Deputy said that: “Suhail called, during the meeting with the new Representative of UN, to more cooperation and coordination between the UN Mission and Iraq, stressing the need to update the files that have not been completed at the time of former Representative of the UN, Martin Kobler, who paid tribute to his efforts and his work during his tenure in Iraq.”

Suhail welcomed the new Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stressing “the importance of giving the UN the appropriate role, which it can support the political process and create appropriate climates that increase the interdependence of Iraq with the international community.”

He said: “Iraq will provide all it can for the success of the task of the new United Nations mission, which it coincided with major developments on the political, economic and security in Iraqi arena.

For his part, Meladenov reiterated UN support for Iraq to achieve the aspirations of the Iraqi people, stressing that the current mission requires providing support and assistance to Iraq in all fields. / End
