Iraq and Kuwait sign memoranda of understanding on border maintenance operation and financing of a residential complex at Umm Qasr

Iraq and Kuwait signed on Tuesday two memorandums of understanding on the arrangements for the maintenance of the physical process of the border and finance the construction of a residential complex in the area of Umm Qasr in Basra province border.


Zebari had arrived on Monday evening to Kuwait in a two-day official visit.


A statement by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that "two Memoranda of Understanding signed by the Kuwait Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah and the Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari."

He added that he "was conducted official talks dealt with the overall bilateral relations and the positive developments growing in all areas, particularly with regard to the decisions of the relevant Security Council, also discussed the review of areas of future cooperation between the two countries and ways to achieve them, in addition to the review of the files of the current political at all levels regional, Arab and international. "


He said the "signing ceremony was attended by Amiri Diwan Advisor Mohammad Abdullah ابوالحسن and Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ambassador Khalid Sulaiman Al-Jarallah and a number of departments, managers and officials in the ministry and members of the visiting delegation and ambassadors of the two countries."


The Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has signed with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chairman of UNAMI in Iraq, Martin Kobler last Sunday in Baghdad, the extradition agreement the amount of damages assessed by the Security Council in its resolution No. 899 of 1994 to compensate Iraqi farmers who have been affected farms as a result demarcation the border between Iraq and Kuwait during the period 1991 - 1994 to be followed by another step close to building a modern residential city of Umm Qasr to accommodate Iraqi families affected for the same reason, according to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry statement.


And witnessed the official relations between Iraq and Kuwait described the positive developments during the past few months, to end the outstanding issues between the two countries, and to remove Iraq from the international sanctions imposed on it in the seventh item, by the UN Security Council.


This is due to the Kuwaiti Prime Minister Jaber Mubarak Al-Sabah visited Baghdad to discuss ways to end the outstanding issues with Iraq, but not so far rescheduled.


And announced that Kuwait and the UN Mission for Iraq [UNAMI] at the end of last March 2013 solve the problem of demarcation of the land border with Iraq permanently after the removal of abuses and obstacles that were encountered in maintenance of border markers in the area of Umm Qasr border, after he finished countries dispute and the final settlement of the issue of lines Iraqi air after signing Emir of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in 23 of the last October 2012 Emiri decree approving the financial settlement, following the signing of the two sides on the final settlement of the fact that Iraq to pay $ 500 million in compensation to the final Kuwait Airways.
