Kuwait: $ 21 billion size of the remaining debt on Iraq



Palm - A Kuwaiti newspaper published today that the size of the remaining debt of Kuwait to Iraq amounted to $ 21 billion, after paying a fund for the United Nations Commission for $ 680 million compensation.

The newspaper Al Qabas in the news, says the fund for the United Nations Commission on Compensation for Bmtdharra the second Gulf War, agreed to provide $ 680 million for nine points damaged in Kuwait, adding that the amount provided will increase the total amount of compensation paid to individuals, companies and government institutions and international organizations to about $ 31.4 billion remaining to be owed to Kuwait $ 21 billion.

The file includes Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations a lot of outstanding issues, notably the compensation paid by the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in 1990, and the position of Kuwait from Iraq would emerge from Chapter VII of the UN, as well as the demarcation of the border between the two countries and the remains of missing Kuwaitis.

The newspaper added that most of the amounts of compensation paid, comes from sales of Iraqi oil under the Oil for Food program, which ended at the end of 2003, and later continued allocation of those amounts from the sale of oil according to the arrangements in the framework of UN Security Council resolutions.

The U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden said during a session of the UN Security Council on 12.15.2010, the Board decided to cancel the sanctions imposed on Iraq after its invasion of Kuwait in 1990, while Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari during the meeting, said that before the Iraq way to resolve outstanding issues with Kuwait.

Iraq has been under the provisions of Chapter VII after the Security Council resolution 678 of 1990 after Iraqi troops entered Kuwait in the month of August of the same year, which allowed the UN resolution to use military force to remove Iraq from there and according to the provisions in Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.
