The Parliamentary Investment Committee reported that the development road
is one of the most important strategic projects that
will strengthen Iraq’s position as a commercial link between the East and the West,
describing the project as “uninterrupted oil.”
Committee member, Dhia al-Hindi, explained in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that
the project, which starts from Al-Faw port in Basra and extends to Turkey, will
be three thousand meters wide and will
include a highway and two train tracks, one for transporting passengers and the other for transporting goods. He pointed out that
it includes the establishment of free stations and squares in every governorate through which the road passes, as well as industrial cities aiming to employ youth and enhance economic activity, noting that
Iraq, Turkey, the Emirates and Qatar will be among the most prominent beneficiaries of the project, with the door for participation open to all countries.
This enhances regional security and ensures joint protection of the road, which will be a major corridor for the transit of goods to Europe. Al-Hindi confirmed that the
project
has completed all its plans, and
is now in the implementation phase, pointing out that
Qatari funding and the Emirati administration are contributing mainly to it, with percentages determined for each participating party. He stated that the
development road will witness the use of modern trains at speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour, which will shorten transportation time and enhance the efficiency of connectivity between regions. In addition, the
project represents a strategic vision to transform Iraq into a global center for transport and trade, and places it among the countries that influence the regional and international economy..
