Baghdad (AIN) -The government of the Republic of Iraq decided to join the International Initiative for the Suppression of Nuclear Terrorism launched by former U.S. President George Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg G8 Summit on 2006.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by AIN cited "The decision complies with Article 9 (F) of the Iraqi Constitution which states that the Iraqi government respects and implements Iraq's international commitments regarding the prohibition of the proliferation, development, production, and use of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and ban anything related to developing, manufacturing, production, and use of instruments, materials, technology, and communication systems, in a way that complies with the international legal frameworks, especially the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism and the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM) which Iraq joined on 2012, 2014 consecutively and in line with the Iraqi government's policies and efforts to suppress and combat terrorism with all its forms and to work on creating a world free from weapons of mass destruction as an appreciation of the mobilization of the international efforts to counter terrorism to preserve international peace and security." /End/http://www.alliraqnews.com/http://www.alliraqnews.com/[url= [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
