Kingdom of Bahrain partakes in 24th Meeting of Arab Ministers In-charge of Environmental Affairs

Manama: Dec. 20 – (BNA) Upon directives from His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Personal Representative of HM the King, the Supreme Council for the Environment participates during the 24th Session of the Arab Ministers In-charge of Environmental Affairs which will be convened in the period 24-25 December 2012 in Baghdad the capital of the Republic of Iraq.
The Kingdom of Bahrain's delegation to the meeting will be led by HE Dr. Adel Khalifa Al-Zayani the general director for the Protection of the Environment, Wildlife in the Supreme Council for the Environment.

The Arab Ministers for environmental affairs will discuss implementation of resolutions of the Arab Summit for Economic and Social Development and follow up the implementation of the recommendations of the World Summit for Sustainable Development (RIO+20) and also updating of the Arab Initiative for Sustainable Development and its executive plan as well as latest developments regarding the oil slick in Lebanese territorial waters.

The meeting is also expected to follow up implementation of the outcomes of the Doha 2012 Training Course and Forum regarding pollutants and emission of the electricity sector and invitation to members countries in order to endorse the recommendations of the meeting of experts for follow up of environmental and health-related consequences of radioactive pollution and the need to continue to follow up procedures for monitoring radioactive pollution in border areas with Israel and its impact on the Arab region and its environment. The meeting will also discuss the hazards of Iran's Bushehr nuclear reactor and level of radioactivity emitted from it and its impact on the Arab region and coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) in this respect.
