1/25/2012 8:09 PM

NAJAF / Aswat al-Iraq: Najaf tribes demanded the Iraqi government halt exporting oil through Turkish territories if Premier Erdogan does not apologize for his sectarian statements.

In a statement, they called for cutting off diplomatic relations, as well as the economic exchange.

A copy of the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq reported that a number of tribal sheikhs in Najaf province denounced the Turkish statements and the intervention in Iraqi internal affairs.

It is expected that demonstrations will he held during the coming two days expressing opposition to the Turkish premier's statements.

Najaf lies 160 km south of the capital, Baghdad.

Iraqi Vice President Khudhair Khuza'i today called Premier Erdogan's statements "inciting".
